Oceania Cruises to Africa While Rescuing Refugees

Patti and David gave 22 different presentations aboard the Oceania Insignia as they sailed around the continent of Africa during the months of May and June 2024. As they set sail from Dubai, little did they know that their ship would end up saving the lives of refugees who were fleeing from Senegal.

As the Insignia approached the northwest coast of Africa, it received a distress call from a cargo ship that a group of refugees were stranded at sea for more than 20 days without food and water. The captain, cruise director, and crew stepped up and saved the lives of 68 cold and wet refugees who were then relocated to the Canary Islands where they sought asylum. Needless to say, the memories of this cruise will stay with Patti and David for the remainder of their lives.
